Are Thank you cards still a thing?

You know when you search for a simple question online, and an article goes around in circles for ten paragraphs before finally answering you? I hate that. So, let’s get straight to it: YES, they are definitely still a thing.
Now, you might wonder: If the answer is already out there, why write a whole article about it?
Because while people still love receiving them, fewer couples are actually sending them. And I want to show you why you should consider bringing the tradition back.
(Spoiler: I think you should do them our way, because it’s a game changer. But more on that in a second!)
The Wedding Fair Reality Check
We launched our business earlier this year (2026), and we’ve already exhibited at a few wedding fairs. Naturally, we talk to a lot of couples, their friends, and their families.
And without fail, parents (mothers of the bride, fathers of the groom) always say something along the lines of: "Thank you cards are so lovely, but I’ve been to 5/6/7 weddings over the last couple of years and only received ONE. It’s such a shame. Guests put in so much effort to attend, and a card is such a small expense compared to everything else. Honestly? I’d rather skip the flip-flops in the bathroom basket and get a proper thank you card in the post! You know, I can use my own shoes"
That last part was an actual quote from a mum at a fair, and she nailed it. Most people can manage to wear their own shoes for a few hours, or bring a second pair if they think they’ll need it..but a heartfelt note? You can't bring that from home!
Think about it: how often do you get something genuinely lovely in the post nowadays? Between bills, junk mail, letters from doctors and possibly fines opening your letterbox to find a beautiful, unexpected wedding thank you card instantly puts a smile on your face. It’s like getting a postcard from a friend. A rare, charming touch.
Why Do We Stop the Magic After the Big Day?
I’ve been to quite a few weddings myself over the last few years, and just like that mum at the fair, I’ve only ever received ONE thank you card.
When I look through wedding planning groups online, the sentiment is always the same. Whenever someone asks about thank you cards, the comments agree: "They’re a lovely idea! ...We just forgot." or "We meant to, but we just didn't bother in the end."
It made me wonder: Why do we spend months planning every single detail to impress our guests on the big day, only to do nothing afterward to thank them for sharing the best day of our lives?
We should. When I got married, I made sure to send them out, and the response from our guests was overwhelming.
How We Created a Different Kind of Thank You Card
When we started our business, I knew I wanted to offer a thank you card that wasn't just a generic piece of cardstock destined to sit in a drawer. It needed to be unique and meaningful.
If you know our products, you might already be familiar with our Guest Photo Uploads. It lets you create a private digital photo gallery where all your guests can upload the photos they took during your wedding (and if you set it up early, your hen or stag parties, too!).
So I thought: What if the thank you card was the key to that gallery?
We designed a personalized thank you card featuring a preview photo from the wedding, paired with the gallery’s QR code. When guests open the card, they don't just read a nice note, they get instant access to the gallery of memories. They can relive the magic, see the moments you loved, and download their favorite photos directly to their phones.
I printed my own version to show at the wedding fairs, and the reaction was incredible. Guests love it, couples love it, and it gives a traditional gesture a totally modern twist.
The Verdict
If you're currently weighing up your post-wedding to-do list, here is the takeaway:
⭐Yes, thank you cards are still a thing.
⭐Yes, people genuinely appreciate them. Just ask yourself: Would I like to get a personal thank you in the post after going to a wedding? If your answer is yes, your guests will feel the exact same way.
⭐You can make them interactive. Share your favorite gallery photos with your guests so they can keep the celebration going.
⭐They leave a lasting impression.
So, if you're currently debating whether to spend your budget on bathroom slippers or thank you cards... rethink! As that wise mother of the bride said: guests can bring their own shoes. Send them a memory instead 🩷📸.
